Multiplication is a shortcut for repeated addition.

Factors are the numbers that are being multiplied.

Products are the answers we get when we multiply.

Sam, Gail, and Jen are selling cookies to raise money for their class project.

The girls sold 4 boxes of cookies each. Each box has 10 cookies in it. How many cookies did they sell in all?

We need to multiply 3 numbers to solve this!

3 girls x 4 boxes x 10 cookies = ?

3 x 4 x 10 = ?

When we multiply 3 numbers, we do it in 2 steps.

👉 First, we multiply the 1st and 2nd factors.

These are 3 and 4.

3 x 4 = 12

👉 Then, we multiply this product with the 3rd factor.

12 x 10 = 120

That’s our answer!

3 x 4 x 10 = 120

So we just do it step by step. 👍
