Divide numbers ending in zeroes

Understand the Numbers 🧐

Numbers ending in zeroes are like 10, 100, 5000.

They are multiples of 10, 100, 1000….

Example: 5000 ÷ 10, 1200 ÷ 100.

Ignore the Zeroes First ✂️

Look at the number without the zeroes.

Example: 500 ÷ 10 → think of 5 ÷ 1 first.

Count the Zeroes in the Divisor 🔢

Count how many zeroes are at the end of the number you are dividing by.

Example: 4000 ÷ 100 → divisor (100) has 2 zeroes.

Remove the Same Number of Zeroes from the Dividend

Remove 2 zeroes from 4000 → 40.

Now divide the smaller number: 40 ÷ 1 = 40 ✅

Write the Final Answer 📝

The result after dividing the smaller number is the answer.

Example: 600 ÷ 10 = 60, 9000 ÷ 100 = 90

Shortcut Tip 💡

When dividing by 10, 100, 1000…, just move the decimal point to the left by the number of zeroes in the divisor.

Example: 5000 ÷ 100 → move decimal 2 places left → 50
