Earth’s atmosphere changes as it gets further from the surface of the planet. The layer closest to Earth, called the troposphere, is where Earth’s weather happens. Directly above the troposphere is the stratosphere. Clouds are rare in the stratosphere. This is the area above the clouds where aeroplanes fly. The higher you go in the stratosphere, the higher the temperature gets. This is different from the troposphere, where temperatures get lower the higher you go.
