When you compare and contrast characters, you think about how they are alike and how they are different. Look at each character’s actions and dialogue. These can tell you how the characters feel and what they are like.

🔥Read the passage.
What’s that? Lucas asked, pointing at a big green insect on the pavement.
‘Weird,’ his cousin Daniel said. ‘Don’t touch! It could be poisonous. Or maybe it’s a magic beetle, like in that film! Wow, what is it? Do you think it flew here from another planet? Quick, take a picture before it flies back to space!’
Lucas pulled out his phone and snapped a picture. Later, he’d consult his insect guide for a real answer.

Henry measured and mixed the ingredients, poured the brownie batter into a tin and slid it into the oven. Before long, the scent of chocolate filled the kitchen. Henry’s uncle walked in and sniffed.
‘They’re all for me, right?’ Uncle George asked.
Henry laughed. ‘I might let you have one,’ Henry teased. Uncle George chuckled and rubbed his stomach. When the timer buzzed, Henry pulled the tin out. The brownies looked perfect. ‘Not bad, huh? My first time, too,’ he said.
