Form the progressive verb tenses

  • Progressive verb tenses describe actions that are ongoing or in progress at a certain time.
  • They show that an action is happening over a period of time.

  • How to Form:
  • Use the verb “to be” (am, is, are) + the main verb + -ing.
  • Examples:

  • Use the verb “to be” (was, were) + the main verb + -ing.
  • Examples:
  • I was reading a book when you called.
  • He was playing soccer yesterday.
  • They were studying when the teacher arrived.

  • How to Form:
  • Use “will be” + the main verb + -ing.
  • Examples:
  • I will be reading a book tomorrow.
  • She will be playing soccer next week.
  • They will be studying for the exam later.

  • Present Progressive: Use am/is/are + verb-ing for actions happening now.
  • Past Progressive: Use was/were + verb-ing for actions happening in the past.
  • Future Progressive: Use will be + verb-ing for actions that will happen in the future.
  • The main verb must always have an -ing ending to indicate that the action is in progress.
