Perfect tenses show that an action is finished or completed. They often use โhave,โ โhas,โ or โhadโ with the past participle of a verb.
Present Perfect Tense (have/has + past participle) |
Used for actions that happened at some time before now or actions continuing to now.
Formula:
- Subject + has/have + past participle
Examples:
- ๐ I have finished my homework.
- ๐ She has eaten her lunch.
Tip:
- Use has with he, she, it
- Use have with I, we, you, they
Past Perfect Tense (had + past participle) |
Used for an action that happened before another past action.
Formula:
- Subject + had + past participle
Examples:

- ๐ They had left the school when it started raining.
Tip:
- Think: โpast of the pastโ
Future Perfect Tense (will have + past participle) |
Used for an action that will be completed before a certain time in the future.
Formula:
- Subject + will have + past participle
Examples:

- ๐ She will have cooked dinner before we arrive.
Tip:
- Focus on the word โbyโ to show the time it will be completed.
