Crispin’s New Wings
Crispin glanced at the clock in the magician’s living room. Waiting for his older brother, Janus, was so boring! Sometimes cool things happened during Janus’s magic lessons with Avis, like the time dozens of small frogs hopped out from under the door. But Janus kept his spells a secret, so Crispin had to imagine what he was learning. At home, Crispin listened to Janus practise and tried to remember the words. But whenever Crispin brought up magic lessons, he always got the same answer from his parents: ‘Crispin, no family needs two magicians!’
Crispin sighed and picked up a book about insects from the bookcase. He flipped through it, stopping at the chapter on moths. It must be nice to fly wherever you want, he thought, tracing the outline of a fuzzy moth with his finger. He whispered a few words of Janus’s spells to himself as he traced. Suddenly there was a bright flash!
