  • An adjective is a word that describes a noun (a person, place, thing, or animal).
  • It helps to give more information about the noun.
  • Example: The tall tree is in the yard. (“Tall” describes the tree.)

  • Describing What Kind: These adjectives tell what something is like.
  • Example: The blue sky (blue tells what kind of sky)
  • Describing How Many: These adjectives tell how many of something there are.
  • Example: I have three books. (three tells how many books)
  • Describing Which One: These adjectives tell which specific one.
  • Example: This small cat is cute. (small tells which one)

  • Adjectives usually come before the noun they describe.
  • Example: The big house is on the street. (“Big” comes before “house.”)
  • Sometimes adjectives come after a “being” verb (is, are, was, were).
  • Example: The cake is delicious. (“Delicious” describes the cake.)

  • The happy dog wagged its tail. (happy describes the dog)
  • I have four pencils. (four tells how many pencils)
  • The yellow flower is pretty. (yellow describes the flower)
