The Earth

  • Earth is shaped like a sphere, slightly flattened at the poles and bulging at the equator.
  • It is called a geoid, meaning “Earth-like shape.”

The Earth is made up of three main layers:

  • Crust: The outermost layer, where we live.
  • Mantle: A thick layer of semi-solid rock beneath the crust.
  • Core: The innermost layer, divided into a solid inner core and a liquid outer core.
  • About 71% of Earth’s surface is covered with water (oceans, seas, rivers, and lakes).
  • The remaining 29% is land (continents, islands, mountains, plains, and valleys).
  • A layer of gases surrounding Earth, essential for life.
  • Composed mainly of nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (21%), along with small amounts of other gases.
  • Rotation: Earth spins on its axis, causing day and night.
  • Revolution: Earth orbits around the Sun, causing seasons.
  • Landforms like mountains, valleys, plateaus, and plains.
  • Water bodies like oceans, rivers, and lakes.
  • Forests, deserts, and grasslands contribute to Earth’s diversity.
  • Earth is the only planet known to support life due to its atmosphere, water, and suitable temperature.
  • Reduce pollution and protect natural resources.
  • Practice recycling, conserve energy, and protect wildlife.
  • Earth is the third planet from the Sun in our solar system.
  • It takes 24 hours for Earth to complete one rotation and 365.25 days for one revolution around the Sun.
