Kinds Of Forces
key notes :
- Force Definition: A force is a push or a pull that can make things move, stop, or change direction.
- Contact Forces:
- Push: A force that makes an object move away from you.
- Pull: A force that makes an object move toward you.
- Friction: A force that opposes the motion of objects when they rub against each other.
- Non-Contact Forces:
- Gravity: The force that pulls everything towards the center of the Earth. It keeps us on the ground and objects fall because of it.
- Magnetism: The force that attracts or repels objects with magnetic properties.
- Static Electricity: The force between objects with different electric charges (positive and negative).
- Balanced and Unbalanced Forces:
- Balanced Forces: When two forces are equal in strength and act in opposite directions, they balance each other, and the object stays still or continues moving at a constant speed.
- Unbalanced Forces: When two forces are not equal in strength or act in the same direction, they cause an object to accelerate or change direction.
- Examples of Forces in Everyday Life:
- Throwing a ball (applying force).
- Sliding a book across a table (friction).
- Dropping an apple (gravity).
- Using magnets to attract or repel objects (magnetism).
- Rubbing a balloon against your hair and making it stick (static electricity).
- Measuring Force:
- Force is measured in units called Newtons (N). More force means more Newtons.
- Safety:
- Understanding forces is important for safety. For example, wearing a seatbelt in a car to stay safe in case of sudden stops (unbalanced forces).
- Applications:
- Engineers and scientists use their knowledge of forces to design structures, vehicles, and many other things.
➤ Magnetic Force
A magnet applies a force on things made of iron and steel and pulls them towards itself.
This force is called magnetic force.
The magnet does not pull things made of other substances such as paper, plastic.
